Paris.-President Francois Hollande returned to France on Tuesday after a trip to the United States, where he defended two key goals of his foreign policy, an European economic growth accord and the withdrawal of the French troops from Afghanistan.

The head of State´s first week of work was characterized by an intensive international activity, started with a visit to German chancellor Angela Merkel, with whom he has differences regarding the strategy to fight the crisis in the Euro zone.

Holande stayed in the US from Friday to Monday to attend the summits of the Group 8 (G-8), and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

In his first meeting with the group of the world´s top eight richest nations, Hollande received support to his theory that the budgetary austerity without economic growth is insufficient to solve the current financial difficulties.

The G-8 final declaration highlighted the need of promoting the economic growth and employment, taking the necessary measures to solve the economic problems and make the Euro zone a strong and united bloc.
