Havana.- The First National Meeting of Harley-Davidson will begin on Friday at the Cuban beach resort of Varadero, where the so called Harlistas across the country will present their motors of more than 60 years.
In interview with Prensa Latina, the event coordinator, Max Cucchi said that the attendees will leave from Havana and the east of the country simultaneously, and meet in the park of Varadero, Matanzas province, for a three-day appointment. The idea comes in order to unify lovers of these bikes relics rolling in Cuba, as well as to promote the care, conservation and knowledge about those motors, considered a heritage, said Cucchi. This is the inaugural meeting, although "we intend to do it every year and promote it as an appointment of a global nature", he said. According to Cucchi, almost all Harley-Davidson circulating in the country came before the 60's, because the U.S. blockade against the island stopped the import of such vehicles and their parts. Estimations by the Harlistas Cuban community reports nearly 300 Harleys registered in the country. As is recorded in the Bureau of Customs of the Republic, the arrival of the first Harley-Davidson came to the island for over a century. The well-known motorcycle brand, patented in 1903, the brothers created a small garage in Milwaukee, USA |
