Cuba Beats Dominican Republic in Regional Volleyball Tournament PDF Print E-mail

HAVANA, Cuba-.  Cuba steamrolled the Dominican Republic in straight sets (25-17, 25-15, 25-14) in their Monday's debut at the North, Central American and Caribbean (NORCECA) Men's Continental Volleyball Championship that began in the Puerto Rican city of Bayamon and which grants only one ticket for next November's Grand Champions Cup in Japan.
Wilfredo Leon tallied 11 points for Cuba and Michael Sanchez added 10 units while team Captain Roberlandy Simon and Osmany Camejo each contributed nine points to the winning effort.
"We came here with the purpose of qualifying to the Grand Champions Cup so our focus is on playing hard against all the opponents," said Simon.
Also on Pool A on Monday, host Puerto Rico blanked Barbados 25-9, 25-
16 and 25-18.
Elsewhere, in Pool B, the United States defeated Mexico also in straight sets (25-15, 28-26, 15-16) while Canada imitated them and overcame Panama 25-13, 25-23 and 25-19.
On Tuesday, in Pool A, Cuba faces Barbados and Puerto Rico takes on the Dominicans while, in Pool B, Canada plays against Mexico and the United States goes against Panama.
