HAVANA, Cuba.-Cuban Jose Armenteros won the gold medal in the men's 100-kilo category of the Junior World Judo Championships that concluded on Sunday in Cape Town, South Africa, with the participation of 521 judokas from 65 countries.
According to the website of the event, Armenteros beat Italian Domenico Di Guida in the final bout after consecutive victories against Portuguese Jorge Fonseca, Egyptian Mohamed Abdelrahman, Japanese Takumi Asanuma, and With this result, the Caribbean nation placed fourth in the contest, won by Japan, whose representatives walked away with 12 crowns out of 16 up for grabs. The Japanese (12-0-1) were followed by Russia (2-4-3), Austria (1-0-1) and Cuba (1-0-0).
