Cuba Wins First Medal in World Wrestling Championships PDF Print E-mail

HAVANA, Cuba.- Pedro Isaac Hererra (men's 66 kg- Greco-Roman style) on Monday gave Cuba its first medal in the 2011 World Wrestling Championships that are under way in Istanbul, Turkey.

Herrera, who placed third in the previous World Championships -held two
years ago in Herning, Denmark- on this occasion beat American Justin
Lester in the bout for the bronze.

Iranian Saeid Morad Abovali won the title of the division defeating
Manuchar Tskhadia of Georgia in the finale.

The other bronze medal was for Hyeon-Woo Kim of South Korea.

The 2011 World Wrestling Championships are underway in Istanbul's Sinan
Erdem Dome in the men's Greco-Roman and Freestyle categories. They will
run through September 18.

The top six in each weight category secure a place for their teams at the
London 2012 Olympics.
