HAVANA, Cuba .- The Cuban national baseball team lost to host Chinese Taipei 2-3 on Tuesday in a warm-up game prior to the 17th Intercontinental Cup of the sport scheduled to begin on Saturday, October 23.
The Cuban squad —after a 20-hour trip to the venue of the tournament— was able to score only two runs with seven hits against four pitchers.
The winners scored two runs in the fifth inning and another one in the sixth off Cuban right-handed starter and loser Freddy Asiel Alvarez.
In another warm-up game, Japan blanked Holland 6-0.
Cuba will make their tournament debut on Saturday facing the Czech Republic.
