HAVANA, Cuba.-Cubans are enjoying Brazilian culture in May, with the interaction of several artistic expressions from that South American country, like literature, fine arts and music.
Sergio Couto, cultural atache of the Brazilian embassy to Havana, told ACN that these exchanges encourage Cubans to know more, enjoy, feel and listen to some of the best of Brazilian artistic creations. He pointed out that bilateral rapprochement reached its peak with the agreements signed by their respective culture ministers in 2008. For this reason, he added, actions began with the carrying out of the 7th International Meeting on the Presence of Paulo Freire, a way to honor this Emeritus Professor of the Americas and promoter of education in Brazil, on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of his death. In addition, the artistic production of five Brazilian creators -Diana Dominguez, Carlito Carvalhosa, Daniel Lima, Lia Chaia and Laura Lima- will be on display during the 11th Biennial Exhibition in Havana, from May 11th through June. He announced that guitarist Yamandu Costa will perform on May 19 in the opening gala of Cubadisco 2012 (Cuba's record fair and contest), and that the following day he will play at the Covarrubias Hall of the capital's Teatro Nacional, while Cuban troubadour Yolo Bonilla will present his album in Portuguese language "Yolinho Habaneiro", of great national success. Another modality will be a panel on the translation of works by Brazilian authors by Cuban publishing houses, at the Manuel Galich Hall of Havana's Casa de las Americas cultural institution, scheduled for May 23. Couto pointed out that the Festival of Dramatized Readings of Current Brazilian Theater, on the pieces Avenida Independencia 161, Hazte idea de que hay sol alla afuera, Impostura and Delantal todo sucio de huevo, will be held from May 28th through the 31st. Likewise, he announced the inauguration of the Glauber Rocha Film Festival for May 22, at the theater named after him in the Foundation of the New Latin American Cinema, where the public will have the opportunity to enjoy the movies Diario de Cintra, El Dragon de la Maldad Contra el Santo Guerrero, Barravento, La Edad de la Tierra, El Rocha que vuela y Dios and Diario en la Tierra del Sol.
