| Cuban Film Wins Award in Uruguay’s Latinuy Festival |

HAVANA, Cuba.- The movie ‘Jose Marti: el ojo del canario' (Jose Marti: the Eye of the Canary), by Cuban filmmaker Fernando Perez, was awarded the First Prize of the Third Latinuy International Film Festival that concluded over the weekend in Uruguay.
‘Jose Marti: el ojo del canario', which narrates the early years and adolescence of the Cuban writer and independence hero, won in the category of Best Fiction Film. Fernando Goldsman, president of the event's organizing committee, praised the large attendance of people to enjoy the films screened, and he recognized the contribution of the embassies of Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela and Paraguay to the organization of the international festival. A total of 25 films from eight countries were exhibited. The program of the event also included an exhibition of Cuban, Uruguayan and Venezuelan short films, as well as talks with specialist, critics and filmmakers. ‘Jose Marti: el ojo del canario' was selected by critics as one of the top ten movies screened in Cuba in 2010 and it also won most of the collateral awards of the 32nd International Festival of Latin American Cinema of Havana. It was also nominated for the 25 Goya Awards of Spain in the category of Best Foreign Film and received an Ariel award granted by the Mexican Film Academy. |
