Bayamo.- Representatives of Cuban intellectuality in this city paid tribute to the recently deceased poet, narrator and ensayist Cintio Vitier, in the Day of the National Culture in the country.
The commemoration was led by members of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party Ricardo Alarcón, President of the National Assembly, Abel Prieto, Minister of Culture, and other officials in the territory.
The event was also attended by artists, writers, professors and historians who celebrated the XV Feast of the Cuban Traditions since last Saturday.
Luis Carlos Suarez, poet, storyteller and teacher, expressed that Cintio bequeathed an extraordinary wealth of knowledge and illumination to enrich the Cuban culture. Suarez said that the author of the essay "The sun of the moral world" joined the Parnassus of the great Cuban humanists, guided by his integrity of character and the morality learned from the founding teachers of the homeland.
Cintio's vocation for Jose Marti, he added, is one of the most significant contributions to studies of culture and nationality in the country; he stressed that the Christian faith and belief of Cintio in the country forged in the author of "The Cuban poetry" unwavering loyalty, austerity, understanding and firmness in bad times.
